I think it’s pretty dumb in general. First of all, they claim they’re protecting kids, but in reality, they’re just censoring everything. Let’s say I can legally use social media—now I need to provide my ID just to talk to people. I also need to scan my face. Discord tried this, and the success rate isn’t even high—some 17-year-olds were being scanned as 13-year-olds. Apparently, Discord is considered a “social media” platform, so I’ll be moving to SimpleX or even IRC, since they likely won’t require age verification. Also, the block isn’t going to achieve anything. Teenagers will try everything to bypass it—from using VPNs to stealing IDs.
